Extensive structural damage and remodeling require the removal of large structures, either for aesthetic purposes or because they threaten the entire building. Continue reading to identify some scenarios where our demolition services are essential to be able to revitalize your property:
Fire Damage: After a fire damages your property, our demolition services can restore it to a safe and hygienic environment. The devastating effects of a blaze will quickly permeate through rooms, weakening the property’s structure. Furthermore, flames are extremely effective at spreading contaminants and intense heat throughout an entire home—dirt and soot from smoke can settle into drywall and paint layers. Hiring a demolition service will enable one to easily remove the damaged areas of one’s property, clearing the way for rebuilding and improvement.
Water Damage: Excessive exposure to moisture is debilitating to the inside of any business or home. Standing water swiftly compromises the structural integrity of retaining walls and support structures. Moisture also contributes to toxic mold growth in the wall, as well as the presence among these dangerous spores can drastically lower the air quality. Demolishing infested areas can protect your guests and family from inhaling airborne pathogens. In water, additional damage can short out electrical equipment built into the home.
Home or Business Renovations: Remodeling a home or business is a strenuous yet rewarding endeavor. Many Delmarva area home and business owners worry about the multiple tons of garbage that result from the procedure of demolishing walls to create more open space. Fortunately, not all remodeling jobs require homeowners to trash old materials. Many full or partial remodeling projects can benefit from deconstruction techniques over typical demolition. If the materials produced by your demolition are undamaged and functional, they can be incorporated into the redesign. Deconstruction aims to maximize the amount of reusable materials salvaged with strategic, sustainable demolition practices.
Comprehensive demolition requires expert demolition services. Apex Construction will clear and secure your site making it safe and useable for re-construction. Contact us today for more information.

Selective demolition is a process where the demolition activities are sequenced in such a way that it allows for the separation of building materials and then sorting them out. The act involves the precise removal of selective parts of a building; the separation and removal of portions or components of a structure from what is left behind for re-use. This process is used to demolish certain interior finishes without affecting the remaining structure in any way.
The construction projects involving selective demolition are the ones which typically involve environmental, structural re-use, and/or continued business use ramifications. There are structural considerations in this process since these can have potential impacts to the other work which is happening within the adjacent area. For example, if a selective demolition project is going on within operating facilities like factories, schools, offices or hospitals, then the work goes on while the facilities remain fully functional.

Selective demolition contractors perform precise removal of structures or specific parts of a structure without damaging the structure and components that must remain. In comparison to conventional demolition that typically involves a wrecking ball, jackhammers and sledgehammers to remove large structures often without precision. When your demolition project calls for attention to detail and precision, you need a selective demolition contractor not a conventional demolition contractor.
Apex Construction is a selective demolition contractor with many years of experience performing selective demolition contracting services. Apex Construction’s selective demolition contracting services can: selectively demolish concrete with exact precision; demolish concrete at speeds that would normally require a much larger crew using convention demolition methods; selectively demolish concrete on large unwieldy concrete structures; demolish concrete underwater; selectively demolish concrete in confined spaces; selectively demolish concrete in remote and dangerous worksites where a worker cannot go; selectively demolish concrete in dustless environments or where noise levels must be minimized; selectively demolish concrete without water when the jobsite cannot tolerate water damage. This is just a short list of the many selective demolition services we offer across a wide array of industrial, residential, and commercial structures.

The scope of this job was to perform selective demolition at a Trader Joe's Supermarket to remove an old elevator shaft to make way for a new elevator. Apex Construction worked to overnight shifts to cut out the shaft on time and with no accidents. We used torches, grinders, forklifts and winches to remove over 15,000 lbs of metal from the tight confines of a concrete elevator pit.

In this project we were contracted to remove 7 metal false dormers on the roof of an outlet center in Ocean City Maryland. The Dormers are 18 foot long by 14 foot high and weigh about 2,000 lbs a piece.
We had to secure the Dormers with our Forklift and cut the metal at 5 points where they were attached to the metal framing of the building. The steel on the dormers is .25 inch thick. We first removed the roof around the structure and the proceeded to cut the metal with a metal cut off saw.
During a demolition project it is hard to predict how things are going to progress. After realizing that the cut off saw was taking too long we moved on to our plasma cutter. We protected the areas below with burn blankets and proceeded to cut the structure with the plasma cutter. This made the process move a whole lot faster. We have done other selective demolition jobs in Maryland and Demolition jobs in Salisbury where we have used the plasma cutter and it is a great tool for certain jobs.
We were able to remove all the dormers in 2 days and repair the roof in all of the areas were the structure was removed with out any problems. If you have a selective demolition job, interior demolition job, tenant fit out or any kind of demolition project please give us a call for a free estimate. We have all the equipment and tools to get the job done along with an outstanding safety record. Call Apex Construction at 240-793-5867

DEMOLITION PRACTICES BY METHOD
Methods of destruction employed at demolition sites include the use of heavy machines, explosions/implosions, and manual labor methods.
HEAVY EQUIPMENT / MACHINERY DEMOLITION OPERATIONS
Demolition equipment includes large motorized vehicles such as bulldozers with rakes, top loaders, backhoes, skid loaders/bobcats, hydraulic excavators, and other similar machinery used for transporting, moving, or dislodging of materials at a demolition site. Cranes equipped with wrecking balls, clamshells, or buckets may also be employed.
To demolish one-or two-story buildings, the heavy equipment is used to to perform an undermining process. The strategy is to undermine the building while controlling the manner and direction in which it falls. The demolition project manager must determine where undermining is necessary so that a building falls in the desired manner and direction. The walls are typically undermined at a building's base, but this is not always the case as building designs may dictate otherwise. Safety and cleanup considerations are also taken into account in determining the methods to be used. The structure and components are maintained wet during demolition. Cranes may also be used and are typically equipped with wrecking balls, clamshells or buckets, which are used in a variety of ways. All three may be dropped or swung against the structure to demolish it. When demolition is accomplished by crane, the process can begin at the roof and progress continually downward, or alternate up and down.
EXPLOSIONS/IMPLOSIONS
Building implosions utilizing explosive devices constitute a rarely-used demolition technique. In simplest form, this method is accomplished through the use of explosive charges placed strategically throughout a building so that the building col-lapses in on itself and debris does not radiate outward to any appreciable distance.
MANUAL LABOR HAND METHODS OF DEMOLITION
Manula labor methods refer to the use of motorized and non-motorized tools that can be operated by hand and are not used for transportation. The methods discussed include not only those used in the gutting of building interiors prior to razing, but also those used during razing itself. Hand methods allow much greater control over a building's collapse than other methods and permit easier segregation of demolition materials for resale or recycling than other demolition methods. In addition, hand methods may be required because of workspace limitations.
