Apex Construction was commissioned to perform a residential demolition project on 3 townhouses in Ocean City, MD that was involved in a fire. The roof system was dismantled, walls removed, interior gutted, and the exterior was torn down to the studs. Apex Construction will be removing this 100 foot plus tower from an industrial facility in the very near future. We will be using a crane and a 125 foot man lift to cut and remove the structure in sections and to clear the power lines located around the structure. Selective Demolition or Interior demolition is when only parts of a building are removed but the structure remains intact. In this case we were asked to remove everything on the interior of this retail space to make way for a new tenant. We had to demolish all the floors, this included tile, carpet and composite vinyl flooring. We then had to grind down the floors and remove all glue and thin set for allow for the new floor finishes. We also had to remove the suspended ceiling system, the ceiling system grid, all the duct work and the plumbing lines. We removed 2 hot water heaters, and all the bathroom appliances. We then had to patch any holes on the concrete floors. We got this done in 2 1/2 days.

For this project, Apex Construction was hired to perform interior demolition services at an old Super Fresh Supermarket that is becoming a Family Dollar. The scope of work included, floor demolition, wall demolition, cutting new openings, saw cutting, ceiling and ceiling grid demolition. We brought in our skid loader equipped with a scrubber to help with this project. The project was completed ahead of schedule and with no issues.

Apex Construction performing a mobile home demolition in Fenwick Island Delaware. This particular job was located in Cape Windsor. We used our new bobcat to perform most of the work. It took two days to clear the lot to make room for a brand new ESCH HOMES modular home. For this project, Apex Construction was hired to replace all of the windows, repair all damaged framing and install new siding. We will also be rebuilding the deck and doing trim work and repairs on the interior of the home.
This project is an ongoing job at the Tanger Outlets in West Ocean City Maryland. Among other things we will be doing roofing work, demolition, and carpentry work through out the next several months. The first phase of the project will be to remove all the existing concrete shingles through out selected areas of the mall. This includes all of the towers. We will also remove all the existing paper and check the plywood to make sure its intact. If we find that its not in good condition we will then replace the plywood. We then will store all of the roof shingles in sea containers for later use. We estimate that we will remove approximately 14,000 shingles by hand and with out breaking them. Once the shingles are removed we will install ice and water shield in preparation for the new Standing seam metal roof that will be installed. We estimated this phase of the project would take 1 month but it was completed in 2.5 weeks.

Cutting a concrete slab, metal roof deck and i beams to make room for new metal stairs
In this project we were contracted to remove 7 metal false dormers on the roof of an outlet center in Ocean City Maryland. The Dormers are 18 foot long by 14 foot high and weigh about 2,000 lbs a piece.
We had to secure the Dormers with our Forklift and cut the metal at 5 points where they were attached to the metal framing of the building. The steel on the dormers is .25 inch thick. We first removed the roof around the structure and the proceeded to cut the metal with a metal cut off saw.
During a demolition project it is hard to predict how things are going to progress. After realizing that the cut off saw was taking too long we moved on to our plasma cutter. We protected the areas below with burn blankets and proceeded to cut the structure with the plasma cutter. This made the process move a whole lot faster. We have done other selective demolition jobs in Maryland and Demolition jobs in Salisbury where we have used the plasma cutter and it is a great tool for certain jobs.
We were able to remove all the dormers in 2 days and repair the roof in all of the areas were the structure was removed with out any problems. In addition to the roof demolition and interior demolition projects, Apex Construction is also doing smaller jobs at the Tanger outlets on a daily basis. Below are some pictures of a safety tunnel we were asked to build. The tunnel was built in preparation for a new steel tower that is being erected in front of the Super Fresh. We also had to build some barricades to keep the public away from concrete work being done at the mall. The trash compactors are also getting a face lift and we installed new posts and will be building a new fence around them in the next couple of days.
