Building occupants will hardly know a new roof is being applied, because installation is quiet and safe. Our PVC roof membrane is mechanically-attached to the deck; edges and vinyl roof components are heat-welded together to complete the watertight, monolithic roofing system installation. There are no loud machines, no hazardous materials, no noxious fumes, no hot tar, and no mess. Because it's made from lightweight vinyl, a new Duro-Last roofing system can often be installed over an existing roof without an expensive tear-off, virtually eliminating dust or falling debris that could interfere with building activities or damage sensitive equipment.

Thermoplastic PVC roofing is extremely strong, as its heat-welded seams form a permanent, watertight bond that is stronger than the membrane itself. PVC resin is modified with plasticizers and UV stabilizers, and reinforced with fiberglass non-woven mats or polyester woven scrims, for use as a flexible roofing membrane. PVC is often blended with other polymers to add to the performance capabilities of the original PVC formulation, such as KEE – Keytone Ethylene Ester. Such blends are referred to as either a CPA – Copolymer Alloy, or a TPA – Tripolymer Alloy.
PVC Vinyl roofs are inherently fire resistant due to their chemical composition and have a broader range of fire ratings over common substrates.
PVC has been sold for commercial roofing use for more than 60 years. Vinyl roofing membranes' long life cycle – and the associated lower energy consumption to both produce the raw material and process it into useful products – is a significant factor in their sustainability as a building product.
Vinyl roofs provide an energy-efficient roofing option due to their inherently light coloring. While the surface of a black roof can experience a temperature increase of as much as 90 degrees under the heat of the full sun, a white reflective roof typically increases only 10–25 degrees Fahrenheit.
Vinyl membranes can also be used in waterproofing applications for roofing. This is a common technique used in association with green, or planted, roofs.
Flat roof repairs are crucial for anyone who owns a building with a flat roof. It’s even more important to know how to maintain a roof and perform roofing repairs before any small cracks or dips become serious problems. Apex Construction is a certified contractor for Duro-Last and Sarnafil flat roofing systems. We can assist in any flat roof repairs or complete new installations if necessary.
Heat and water cause most of the problems that require roof repair. Flat roofs should be inspected at least twice a year for heat and water damage. Check the roof more often if you live in an area with heavy storms or if trees drop a lot of drain-clogging leaves onto your roof. Look for trouble spots and perform a roof repair or call a certified contractor that specializes in PVC or EPDM membrane systems. Flat roofs with serious leaks will likely need to be replaced. In such cases, a flat roof repair will only cover up the problem. Still, you can delay a costly replacement with preventative flat roof repairs.
The first spot to keep an eye on is the edge of the roof, and any other drain channel. Water pools at the edges of the roof before flowing down the drains, and even a tiny gap in the flashing can allow leaks. Sealing the flashing tightly all the way around the roof where it meets exterior walls, and around any vents or chimneys. Remember that rain doesn’t always fall vertically. Flat roof repair may also involve flashing repair on the walls.
Look for standing water at low points on the roof. If you see blisters in the roof, water has probably already leaked into those spots. Sooner or later, the water will seep through and require roof leak repairs. It’s easier to perform roofing repairs when the roof is dry and before the water causes serious damage inside the building.
In cases of widespread, severe damage, flat roof repair should be left to professionals like Apex Construction. However, it may be possible to cut out and replace small sections of the roof with new material, depending on the integrity of existing material. Sagging areas also can be built up and leveled off with sheets of rigid insulation under the roof.
The best defense against leaks is a good, early offense with preventative roof repairs. Flat roofs are very susceptible to water and heat damage, but thorough, regular inspections and maintenance can prevent many problems. Contact Apex Construction today!
